Need help with battery Issues.

Pops gave me an old macbook for school and it works perfectly when it's plugged in but immediately shuts off if I unplug it. I went into power and it says no battery is installed but I checked and there definitely is. I'll include my systems info below. When I go into the energy settings and click "Show battery percentage" it automatically goes back to being unchecked. I've tried that SGA reset or whatever it's called with the shift option R on reboot with no luck. I've got a new battery on the way and I'm hoping installing that will fix the problem but I figured I'd post on here and see if anyone has any solutions I haven't tried. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
