Merging 2 time machines to 1 iMac

My wife and I both have MacBook pro's and two separate time machine backup hard drives. We want to buy one iMac with 1TB hard drive on it. The question: Is this possible to do and then merge all the content from the two backups onto the one computer creating one hard drive?
