Safe iMac CPU Temps (Retina 5K, 27

According to iStat Menus, my iMac CPU Core temperatures have hit a max of 93 degrees Celsius during video encoding. Is this excessive?

I can easily push the temperatures lower by turning up the fan manually, but I want to know whether this is necessary. Also would rather not burn out the fan. Just wondering in principle what are the safe guidelines, so that I know when to back things off or amp up the fans.

No, it is not. Were it excessive the machine would be shut down. The guidelines are programmed into the OS, the CPU, and the SMU. You needn't worry about them unless you aren't running any programs and the computer is overheating.

If you are using CPU/GPU intensive software then the hardware will run hotter. You should get used to it. Then read this:
