Apple TV Remote controlling my mac

I have gone into settings> and checked disable remote control infrared receiver, I have never paired any devices with my mac, yet my Apple TV remote is still controlling my mac. Is there another setting I need to change? I have restarted my computer multiple times and attempted to enable and disable the setting again, however it does not have the slightest effect on the control my Apple TV control has over my mac.

This problem never use to happen and has started since I updated my software yesterday.
