Will Sync ReSize Photo?

Just ordered iPad and will sync photos from an iMac and a netbook (XP Home). Does the iPad resize photos that are sync'd or transfered directly, Users Manuel says: When syncing photos to iPad, iTunes automatically creates a size optimized for iPad.
What does that mean? If resizes, the iPad can't be used for storage.

Yes, large file-size photos are "optimized" when they are synced to the iPad. However, if they are imported via the camera connection kit the imported files are not reduced though they may be "optimized" for viewing on the iPad. When those imported photo are synced to your computer the original files are synced to the computer.
Thanks, I was afraid that's what optimized meant. Is there a way to transfer photos from another computer?

There are apps that allow you to view and import files from a computer via wifi. One is FileBrowser. One can also use the app DropBox to transfer stuff to and from the cloud. You can add stuff to your DropBox from a computer to DropBox and thus get it to your iPad.
Thanks to all. I'll probably experiment with PhotoPad, File Browser, and DropBox when the iPad gets here. until then will keep the netbook, perhaps as a photo backup.

Keep in mind you can't just sync photos from two different computers and have both sets of photos on the iPad at the same time. You will need to either alternate the photos on the iPad or consolidate the photos to one computer.
Using Dropbox as the storage site for the iPad will allow accessing all photos that are on dropbox any time you have wifi or 3G access.
When syncing photos to iPad, iTunes automatically creates a size optimized for iPad.

iTunes will optimiize photos for display on the iPad to 2304 x 1536.

This is not true for the new iPad - photos up to at least 4608x3072 are not resized, but they do get compressed somehat more.

You repsonded to a year old post only two weeks after the iPad 2 was released and before the iPad 3.

The way in which ipad syncs photos has changed again with the ipad air.

Apple tech folk are looking in to it to give me a definitive reply, but a 28 gb file in win 7 appears as a 10.7 gb file in ipad 2, but in ipad air it wants to be a 27gb file!

My air is not big enough for a 27gb file.

 

I wish Apple had made this clear somewhere before I bought the ipad air 32gb!!  Have I wasted that money?

Of course we all hate it when something, such as resizing or not resizing is happening w/o disclosure. Capacity concerns are legit.

But I'm on the other side on resizing. I don't want it. I would rather do it myself and know when I have the best quality available of photos.

Did Apple ever reply? I bought an iPad Air 128gb because I ran out of space on my old iPad 64gb. It went to 123gb immediately...so frustrating.
