External Hard Drive cannot connect to Macbook P...

I have a WD My Passport Ultra external hard drive and since my macbook pro doesn't have a usb port, I use a usb/usb-c adapter cable. I read online that it should work if I connect the external hard drive directly to the macbook, but what can I do if my macbook doesn't have the usb port?

Nothing shows up on the desktop when I connect the hard drive, not even in the disk utility or anything. I tried connecting my small usb that I use for school but even that doesn't connect to my macbook.

Also, my macbook is running the sierra 10.12.6 version.

Is there any way to fix this?

Hi,

Many people use external USB devices with their new MBPs via adapter. It sounds like you have a faulty adapter, or one that just doesn't work. I would either try exchanging the adapter for a replacement, or try a different adapter altogether.
