Configuring new SSD and HDD in iMac using Time ...

Hi all.

I have successfully installed a new 128gb SSD and 1 Terabyte HDD into my 27" mid-2010 iMac after the previous HDD failed. The backup I have is the latest Time Machine auto backup.

I am trying to setup having the OSX and applications on the SSD and the data on my HDD. I have tried two methods;

1- create a Fusion drive. I have formatted both drives and installed a fresh copy of Sierra on the SSD. I then go to Terminal to follow the steps outlined here https://www.techrepublic.com/article/pro-tip-how-to-create-and-disable-a-fusion-d rive/ However I receive the following error message; Error: -69888: Couldn't unmount disk

2- put OSX on SSD and data on HDD as outlined here ssd and hdd setup but when I do the computer is running very slowly it constantly is asking for repairs and is not running well at all.

So I have a clean install of Sierra on the SSD and the latest Time Machine backup using El Capitan on my HDD.

How do I make this work?....
