iMac pops out of sleep

What setting or other interference could be making my iMac come out of sleep ?

Many external devices can cause that. Although better today, USB printers in the past were bad about that. If you are using the iMac for fax messages, that's another.

To rule out your externals as the issue, disconnect everything except for the mouse and keyboard and see if the problem recurs. If it does, post back and we can do some further tests that may help isolate the problem.

When you post back, please give more info about your computer and the Mac OS version it is running. iMacs have been in continuous production since 1998 in four broad families with different troubleshooting issues. There are over 100 variants. Both the sub-model and the OS version are available from "About this Mac," under your Apple menu (left end of menu bar). Example of "About this Mac":

In the example, "21.5-inch, Mid 2011" is the important variant we need. Note that teh OS version is also in that window.

Depending on your OS version the "About" window can have slightly different layouts but all will contain the sub-model and OS version we need to further help you.
