Shift locked when trackpad clicked

I spilt water on my Macbook Air and have just about got it working again except for one problem.

I use Sierra, and using Karabiner-Elements i've disabled the left shift key. however, when i click the trackpad shift is always pressed with it - although it is not "left shift" or "right shift" but simply "shift"

I have reset PRAM, SMC many times.
