Playing podcast, it jumps to next

Playing a podcast episode in view "unplayed" (in previous versions "recent" or something). Out of random, suddenly the playing jumps to the next in the list.

This has been an issue for a long time and I really thought they would fix it in this version (12.4.0.119)...but no.

Please, how can I avoid this (until they fix the bug)?

Does this always happen on the same podcast episode?  Or is it on different episodes (not always the same) each time it happens?  If it happens with the same episode every time, the cause may be a corrupted audio file, especially since this is occurred before the current update.  Try deleting the current download and downloading the episode again.

It's any (all) podcast episode. And I'm not downloading, but streaming... :-(

Does the same thing happen when you stream songs or other audio content, such as iTunes U?

Does the problem occur with both video and audio podcasts, or just video?

I haven't tried either...

Just trying to determine if the problem is specific to podcasts.  Or since you are streaming these podcasts, maybe it's related to the Internet connection, like the stream getting dropped after "caching" an initial portion of the podcast file.  So the podcast plays to a certain point, but then skips.  If it's related to the Internet connection, it's more likely to occur with other type of streamed media, not just with podcasts.  And it is also more likely to occur with video streams, because they use much more data (per second) compared to audio streams.

I see. But if so, why would it just jump to the next track and start streaming that within a second, without problems?

Are these audio podcasts or video podcasts?  Try going to the iTunes U section of the iTunes Store.  Those items are similar to podcasts.  Do you have problems streaming iTunes U items?

Sorry, I can't get those in a list a list and then streaming, only downloading.

I see this problem has been going on for some years. My problem just started (2017) when I updated. This is now a default position for podcasts it seems. (Why ?) One has to on each podcast individually go to EDIT>PODCAST INFO>OPTIONS then untick the box next to shuffle play. Then hit OK . Why this is the default astounds me. As with every change in apple now it takes more steps to do what used to be in one step. I think all the microsoft developers are getting jobs at apple. KEEP IT SIMPLE APPLE. THATS WHY WE BUY YOU.
