My contacts disappeared from my contact list overnight. How do I restore it

Go to www.icloud.com and see if the contacts are in the Contacts app there.  If not, you can go to Settings, and click on Restore Contacts.

 

You can also try toggling Contacts off/on under your iCloud settings on the affected device.

I have had exactly the same problem, on almost the same day.  Some of the contacts are there, but the most important ones have disappeared!

My contact list has changed, too.  I have lost many very important ones.  They are not on icloud.  I have backed up my iphone to my macbook, but it seems there aren't any instructions on using that one.  So darn frustrating.  Have you been able to figure it out??

The only thing that worked was for me to go to The Genius Bar at the local Apple Store.  THAT worked.

To toggle, go to Settings/Your Name/iCloud and slide Contacts syncing off. Wait a couple of minutes and then slide it back on.

 

Go to iCloud.com using a computer and select Settings. When that page loads, look at the bottom left side under Advanced and see if you can restore from there.

 

How to Recover Files, Contacts, Calendars and Reminders in iCloud

Hi everyone, I've just been reading the numerous threads here and elsewhere on the web about people who suddenly find that all the information they have in their CONTACTS app has disappeared and they are looking at a blank address book.

 

I was asked to take a look at this very problem on the iMac of a friend today and this is what I discovered and how I fixed it for her so I hope it may be of help to some others.

 

1.     Open CONTACTS and all the app merely showed a dual split window (search window at the top left) and "no cards" showing on right.

 

2.     Go to the CONTACTS menu and click "View"

3.     Click "Show Groups" and a third panel will open on the left-hand side of the CONTACTS window. This panel lists the groups that are currently in the address book and it will list something like:

 

icloud

     All Contacts

     Connected On InTouch

     Hall Users

     untitled group

Gmail

     netball squad

Smart Groups

     Last Import

 

4.     IF A GROUP WITH NO CONTACT INFORMATION IS HIGHLIGHTED THEN THE ADDRESS BOOK APPEARS EMPTY.

 

5.     Move to the first entry in the list (will probably be "All Contacts" and click .... the contacts were really there after all so she had no real reason to panic

 

I do hope that this is the solution for others who encounter this problem.

 

IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE ... I suspect ... somebody may have tried to "add a group" to the address book and then gone off to do something else and subsequently forgotten to give a name to the new group and also forgotten to enter any contact info. So, an "untitled group" is left on the list and it's empty! The source of the problem.
