Safari Asking For PIN

Hello all.  First time poster, long time caller.  Ha Ha Ha.

Anyway.  For years now, Safari has been working just fine with my Air Force website and using a CAC reader.  A few days ago, there seems to have been an update that is now causing Safari to give me warnings about the certificates.  No big deal, I know what I'm trying to access is safe, so I can click through the options to get the site to come up.  However, when I click to bypass and go to the website, I get a window to put in my username (my username is greyed out and visible. I just erased it for the picture) and a PIN.  I've never been asked for a PIN when dealing with this, nor have I ever put a PIN into my MacBook Pro (13-inch, mod 2012) to access anything.  Every setting I've ever changed has always asked for my password, not a PIN.

Possibly related . . . . after multiple openings and closings of the laptop, and the resulting multiple wake ups, I will occasionally get asked for a PIN on the wake up screen, with the blurred out image behind it.  It's the same block, or space where my password usually goes, and the same blurry image screen as usually . . . it just says PIN, instead of password.  I select "Switch User," and the screen rotates over and I have a password prompt.  I enter my usual password, the screen rotates back and I get into my usual home screen.  Or, if I simply restart the computer, the refreshed screen has a normal option to type in my password to login.  NOT TO BE CONFUSED with a system PIN where I've accidentally locked my iCloud or phone or something.  There are no 6 open blocks for a PIN on a grey screen with the Apple logo.  I can start my computer, it boots up, and I get to where I should be putting in my usually password, and like I said, once every twenty "wake ups" or so, it asks for a PIN. 

So anyway, I've got my computer asking for PIN's in different places, and I have never (to my best memory) set a PIN in my accounts anywhere.  Does anyone know how to reset/set this PIN number it keeps asking for?
