Imac response time degrading

I am running Imac system OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 on processor 2,7 GHz intel core i5 with memory 8GB 1600 Mhz DDR3.

Since a couple of weeks I am experiencing performance degradations on this system, with no possibility to start up the system in less than 10 minutes, can not run Imail and Safari concurrently, can not delete 10 mail messages at a time, can not open websites (the Wifi or internet connection is not the cause, since the same websites are called in seconds with an iphone or ipad running on the same network in just seconds).

I would like to know what the standard Apple features are to restore performance, cleanup memory or disk space.

i am being offered to purchase various 3rd party packages who claim to restore Mac speed for me (MacKeeper and others), but before engageing I would like to know a) what I can/should do myself using Mac standard functions (can you explain what these functions are and how to use them?) b) what your preferred 3rd party software for cleanup and performance improvement is?
