itunes: crash on opening — OS 10.13

iTunes crashes when I open the app on iMac 27'', late 2013. This did not occur prior to installing 10.13.

The problem occurred once or twice over the past 1-2 days, after which iTunes would start up and work fine.

Today I cannot get iTunes to open at all.
