Moving libraries

I have been building a library of music on a Windows laptop. I want to do three things.

1. Transfer the entire library via external drive to my Mac.

2. Add new music to my laptop - and add the newly arrived music to the existing library on my Mac.

3. Keep my updated library on my Mac AND keep a backup copy of the complete library on an external hard drive.

This sounds SO easy - but I have too much time and resource invested in my music library to screw it up.

As an aside, I spent 24 years as a software developer and, for the life of me, cannot understand why these functions are not intuitively obvious.
