How do I put a space between numbers without th...

Using the onscreen keyboard on the iPhone or iPad I often need to write a telephone number.  I like to separate the area code from the rest of the number, and also write out phone numbers as XXX XXXX, with a space in the middle--but if I hit Space, the keyboard changes to ABC and I have to tap again to change back to 123 (Numbers) to finish the phone number--not a world shaking problem but a nuisance when you have to do it over and over.  Is there a fix for this?---an example of something that is supposed to make your work easier, working against you. Thanks.

I feel your pain. As far as I know, there is no way round this. But - apart from our perception of good looks, that space character has zero function.

Perhaps adapt your esthetics to something like XXX-XXX-XXX.

Although hyphens are commonly used in the formatting of US phone numbers, they are never used when formatting UK phone numbers. It just wouldn't look 'right' to use them in a UK number and could even confuse readers.

The OP is likely a Yank, not a Brit!

Using hyphens instead of a space is not a bad idea. but it's the principle of the thing. there are other occasions when one might want to put a space between numbers---there should be a way to do this without having to undo the automatic switch to the alpha keyboard.  A Numbers Lock like the Caps Lock?  Anyway, I've made the complaint/request to Apple let's see what happens.

I hold the "ABC" key and slide to space bar.
