Apple Watch pairing issues

hello everyone, I was trying to get my apple watch to connect to my phone earlier and ended up resetting it, but while trying to pair it to my phone the watch doesn't respond. when I try it with the visual version it fails and when I try the manual version it never gives me the number. I'm wondering if this has to do with my forgetting to update my watch before resetting it. just want to see if there are any ways to fix this before I go into my apple store and ask
