App licenses

Would someone kindly explain to me this question I’ve had for a long time now please?

When I purchase an app for my Mac, why this doesn’t give me this same app for my iOS devices.  It is the same app and surely once you have purchased it once, you shouldn’t have to buy it again for a different platform.

This doesn’t just happen with Apple, it happens with other companies such as Microsoft and Google. How are they allowed to get away with effectively changing you twice or more for the same app, just on a different platform?

The short answer is because they are not the same app. They require different coding.

Because you agreed to pay.

For what it's worth Apple charges $0 for their "office" / productivity apps: Get Apple apps on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support, and another $0 for the same app on a different Apple platform.
