Frequently visited sites gone

I have been mucking around with Safari on my MacBook Pro trying to fix some website issues, and I don't know if this related.  I used to see frequently visited sites when I would open a new tab in Safari on my iPad Air 2 running iOS 10.2. I have been clearing the cache on the Mac, but it's been a few days since I did that and I would have figured that the sites that I visit every day would have come back by now.

I have Settings>Safari>Frequently Visited Sites>set to On.

By bookmark syncing are you referring to having Safari turned on iCloud ?

Yes, that's what I meant when I said bookmark syncing. I haven tried resetting all settings yet. I have done that a few times and it's a little bit of a pain setting everything up again, but I might give it a shot. I cleared the cache again, closed everything down, did a forced restart and that didn't do any good. Toggled Frequently Visited Sites off and on  restarted again with no luck.

I Think it might be related to some weirdness that I have going on with Safari on my Mac, but those issues could just be coincidental. Whatever is going on sure has me stumped. I'm not even sure exactly when this happened but I finally noticed it today.

I think I will pack it in for the night and spend the rest of the evening with my family. Thanks for the birthday wishes and Merry Christmas to you!

Crap, I did not mean to hit This Solved my question. I really do need to pack it in.

Edit. How could I forget, 6 hours shy of two years ago I attained my Loungehood. I'm so proud. Start the party !!

I Remember that because I think that I tried to start the party that night.

Hi. "Works for me." iPad Air, iOS 10.2. Looks like maybe only since the last reboot, though. Stand-alone Safari, not linked to any other device.

Can you clarify what you mean by only since the last reboot? I do have the correct setting, don't I? Settings>Safari>Frequently Visited Sites>On?

I think your setting is correct. My Safari Frequently Visited list only shows the couple of sites I've visited since a restart yesterday. I use Chrome mainly, but Safari for links in email. And I follow links in some newsletters I get, but haven't done that since restarting.

When I open a new tab, I only see websites that I have visited in the last 24 hours, unless I use them very frequently.  If you cleared your cache, try going to a site a couple of times, then see if it appears there.  You can also manually add it and/or bookmark sites you like to use.

Hope I helped!

I Have tried just about everything I can think of, but I am not seeing any results yet. I have logged onto Apple.com about 20 times and still don't see anything in frequent sites. I really hate to turn off bookmark syncing in Safari, but that might be my next step to see what happens.

By bookmark syncing are you referring to having Safari turned on iCloud ? I can't find a seperate bookmark syncing in Safari in settings. If you do mean Safari in iCloud settings I tried that and it had no effect.

Starting at the beginning did you reset and failing to have any effect reset> reset all settings> no data will be list ?

Happy Birthday big guy. Methinks you need to pour a nog and take the rest of the day off.

Stay well.  Bob.

You tried boosting me over that last hurdle and someone ratted on you. It ended up being a long day but I wasn't going to bed till I had it.

Thanks for your support and knowledge through the years, couldn't gave done it without you. Now get some rest knowing your work here matters.

My final check in for the night my I find that my frequent sites are showing again. Must be the that the magic of Christmas come to be .

Either that or your iPad came to it's senses.

Merry Chrisymas SergZak. Long time, hope all is well. Please follow the link below to join the Christmas party.

Where's the Merry Christmas thread ?

Merry Christmas to you as well, Bob along with all the other ASC members!

This is also true in Safari under OS X Sierra 10.12.

I went through lots of shenanigans with Apple support and looked at the topsites plist (file in Library/Safari where the info for Topsites lives) and there is no way to get the Top or Frequently Visited sites to show in the bottom pane of the Favorites page as it had done in the past. In addition it appears that the top sites do not really update properly. I have the sense that something has radically changed in Safari either by design or a glitch.

Remains a problem in 10.12.6. Cannot get anywhere with Frequently Visited Site Pane not showing up in Safari. Any help would be vastly appreciated.
