Apple Music search not working on iTunes

Apple Music search is broken on iTunes.  Here’s how it goes: search for a term on Apple Music, you’ll get a summary of artists, songs, playlists, etc, that correspond to this term.  From there click on “Songs” to see more songs, and it just goes missing, shows you a white screen with the circle that turns and turns and turns and never shows any results.  Same if you try to see more artists or playlists: no results.  See screenshots below.

This only happens in iTunes on the Mac.  It works fine on my iPhone.  The problem started about ten days ago.  At first I didn’t mind it that much, thought it must be an iCloud outage, but it has been going on since, making it nearly impossible for me to find the music I’m looking for.

Same problem here

Exactly the same problem here too. Started approx. a week ago so it definitely wasn't caused by an iTunes update. Is there a cache we can clear or an index to rebuild? Reinstallation (including deleting appdata/programdata) doesn't resolve.

FYI - Windows 7 here

I have encountered the same problem too: a spinning gear on a white background, when searching for "Albums", "Songs", or "Playlists" on both of my Macs. However the searches on iOS devices work fine.

My friend, I'm having the same problem, exactly...

By the way, so far this is an issue related only to Apple Music using the iTunes on my desktop Mac, the iPod is working fine with the search, the same for the new Apple Music for Android.

Any help will be welcome.

Best wishes, as always,

Federico (aka euskir)

Glad to see others have the same problem - although I wish I had known a few days ago as I posted a similar message there --> Search Feature - Spinning Wheel in 'New'

One thing I can add in that on PC, I upgraded that to the latest version of iTunes and the issue changed from going back to the main 'New' screen to now the spinning wheel - so I get the exact same results on a Mac and PC with the latest version of iTunes.

And it applies to not just artist you can type in anything so for example if you wanted to view some Christmas playlist you can Search Christmas, you'll see the initial few but if you click on Playlists to see all of them - it hangs.

Also per my post when I spoke with Apple they duplicated it there - they even opened their own case # for it, but I don't know of anyway to check the status of their case.  And that was a week ago.

Great Music Service though - you can add any song you want as long as you happen to know exactly the song and artist, if you want to get ideas or playlists well that doesn't work but we'll continue to bill you.   I can't believe I ended my Spotify premium subscription for this half baked solution.  I may be switching back soon if not fixed.

Regards

Same here iPad works fine but not my iMac or MacBook Air

Same here and this is very frustrating! It has made me wonder just how effective this service is going to be. Last week there were server issues for many people, leading to unacceptable buffering and now this. Can we expect serious issues every time something is updated? In which case what we have is a very flaky streaming service that does not build confidence. I think we need a period of stability to build confidence. Maybe just too many features exist in this software - it tries to be too clever.

I love Apple Music when it works but am beginning to look at other streaming services.

Same here.  Infinite spin with no results on the desktop, but the iphone search is working well.

I just spoke to a technician at Apple, who said that they are aware of the issue and that it will probably be fixed in a future iTunes or system update.

Thanks for this. It's reassuring to know it will get fixed .. at some point. Nevertheless, I think this highlights the problems of running what should be a rock solid music service within an app that is constantly being changed and updated. Users need to feel that Apple Music will work consistently well. My experience so far is that there is permanently one glitch or another impacting upon the system. Maybe this is where a more dedicated service like Spotify could have the lead although I don't have much experience of using it over an extended period.

Well if this is not fixed within the next month i won't be moving from Spotify to Apple Music. Im staying on the trial until then. If its not fixed Apple Music won't be getting my business. I'd hate to be paying for this service right now. Whats the point in having it if i can't search for albums and songs?!?! I have to say that using Spotify has been extraordinarily easier than trying to get my head around Apple Music and the issues with iCloud, songs on my system that are apparently ineligible for iCloud. I can't wait to find out how many problems I'm going to have when trying to sync to my phone!

Could you please tell them to hurry up?  I’m not going to pay €10 a month for a streaming service I can’t search.

I think it displays a rather cavalier attitude that this essential feature can just bide its time to be sorted. Obviously some Apple staff are NOT passionate about their product. If it were me, or most of you, we would want this fixed pronto.
