Permissions error when reinstalling itunes musi...

I recently needed to reinstall my Windows 7 OS and all the apps on my laptop.  Before doing that I backed up my iTunes folder to an external hard drive.  It's about 47 Gb; about 34Gb is in the iTunes music folder.  When I tried to copy that folder back onto my hard drive about 1/3 of it copied and then I received 2 messages.  The first told me I needed admin permission, which I gave.  The second was the problem:

"You need permission to perform this action.  You require permission from ..."x"..to make changes to this file"

"x" was a long code of letters and numbers.

I've tried logging in as the admin to see if I could override that...I've checked access privileges.  Everyone has "full access". I've unchecked "read only"...changed ownership of the folder from the long code of letters and numbers to me. Each step looks like it's acknowledged.  Including the ownership change.

Now it comes up and tells me "You require permission from "ME" to make changes..." and I'm logged in as ME.

I'm truly stumped!  The folder was originally on this same computer (although the hard drive was reformatted, the name stayed the same).  I'm the "owner", but I'm not sure what I have to do to give permission to me.  I'm going to lose about 2700 files or about 30Gb of music.  I haven't gone through all of it - some of it I'm sure I could redownload from Apple, but I'm sure some of it was old CD's I no longer have.

I've tried every variation I can think of.  Would love it if anyone had this experience before and figured out a way around it.

Thanks very much!!!

Stefanie
