MY Mac wont unmute, the option in pref. is gray...

After i updated my mac to the new sierra high software, i cant seem to get it to play music or any sound, when i go to MIDI or sound pref. everything is grayed out, even if i plug in a headphone jack.

I dont know what els i can do
