How do I restore data from my Time Machine from...

I will be receiving my new iMac in a few days and want to make sure I can use Time Machine from the older machine to populate the new iMac. I currently am running  Sierra, Ver 10.12.6.  I've gone through this twice before where I was told connect the two machines and do it that way.  In both cases I ended up having to wipe the new Mac, and reload the OS X.  And required allot of support from Apple on doing that.   So I don't want to go that route again since you cannot have the same computer name on both computers and permissions just don't work after that.

I noticed that previous Time Capsule questions similar to mine are much older and the instruction were based on older operating systems, I just want to check to see if there is a newer way.
