Mac formatted external disk is now read only; change permissions option in Disk Utility not visible.  External disk contains Timeline among other things; need to get it back.  Verified permissions on boot disk; they were fine but no change on options for or status of external disk. 

 

I am running Yosemite 10.10.5 on an early MacBook Pro with 1 TB Samsung SSD.

 

Any suggestions on resetting it?

Do a Get Info on the drive in a Finder window.

At the bottom of Get Info, you can unlock and select "Ignore ownership".
