Manually backing up videos from Photo, have I g...

I'm using Photos on my iMac.

I know "Export" (rather than "dragging") is the right way to manually back up jpegs from Photos, or to just put them on the desktop.

But videos, taken with my iPhone, seem to be opposite - using Export results in a greatly reduced file size; the default player is VLC, and the video obviously isn't as clear but also doesn't start at the first second.

If I just drag it, to desktop or external hd, I get the full file size, it plays from the beginning exactly as it does in Photos, and the default player is Quicktime.

I wonder if I'm doing something wrong when I try Export, because when I choose Export it recognizes it as a video and says it'll export at 1080p - which gives the impression that it's the way to go - and I can't imagine why they'd offer it like that, based on the outcome I've had.  None of the videos I experimented with had been edited.

Thanks for any help,

Lynne
