iPad Photos crashes in slideshow

A friend asked me to help him with an iPad Photos slideshow.  He wanted to adjust the speed of the slideshow but in his case the speed slider wouldn't stay where he put it.  I tried to duplicate the problem on my iPad Pro with iOS 11 and didn't get as gar as he did.  When I started to build a slideshow and then opened the Options to adjust the speed, as soon as I moved the speed slider, Photos crashed.  I can't get past that point.  Anybody have a similar problem or suggestions?
