RAM upgrade options

I have 16Gb RAM (1600 MHz DDR3, 2 x 8Gb) on my Late2012 Mini (2.3Ghz i7). Is it possible to (a) have the Mini recognize more than 16Gb, and/or (b) improve performance with faster RAM, if available?

Just curious ... otherwise the machine works just fine.

If this is your Mac then 16GB is the max:

What apps are you running that consume so much RAM? Unless you find yourself running out of RAM upgrading it won't necessarily make your Mac faster. Replacing the hard drive with an SSD will always make it faster.

If you like you can run EtreCheck, created by one of own helpers here in ASC. It is a diagnostic tool that's very useful to us in finding problems. Also it will give us further specs on your Mac. After it runs post the log file here. It will contain no personal information.

16gB is the max for that model.

I figured. Always curious. Thx!

You're welcome.

Thanks for the answer. You did provide a clue to a possible increase in speed: the RAM offered in the link is DDR3L, which is different to DDR3. One answer to the "what's the difference" question says the "L" versions uses less voltage, which reduces heat and increases performance. I'm all for that, I have my Mini in my garage studio, and could cook an egg on it on toasty SoCal days (I actually plop a block of ice on it so I can keep working; it works, and yes, it's waterproofed).

I'm a contract designer/illustrator for Kia, there's no room for downtime.

I have everything going, often at the same time: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, FontXplorer, Acrobat, Safari, Fetch, Word, Excel, etc. 99.9% of the time it hums along without a hickup. The 0.1% is when the outside temperature hits 100.
