power loss during software update

Whilst updating the Operating System, the power cable was accidentally disconnected. The MacBook has not completed the update and we can't get it to do anything. An error message 'iOS not set' is displayed.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Try a restart. If your MacBook is OK, the install should resume from where it left off. iOS should have nothing to do with it.

Were you updating a specific application or utility or the operating system on your Mac? Which device exactly were you trying to update: MacBook or an iMac (as in your tagline)?

That would be a very unusual error message for an OS X or macOS device. That would be something I could expect displayed on an iOS device instead.

Hi,

That's very strange. iOS is for iPhones etc, not Mac.

In any case, hold down the power button for about 10 seconds until it shuts down. Binto Safe Mode: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262, go to the Apple menu > App Store > Updates > click on the button for the proper update and see if it works.
