USB Hubs and iTunes/iPhone/iPad

So I was having issues syncing, backing up, and updating my iOS devices through iTunes on my MSI laptop.  The devices would randomly disconnect, reconnect, disconnect, and not stop.  I did a bunch of research, tried different things in power settings and drivers.  I finally decided to give something different a shot.  I plugged my iPhone into my Seagate Backup Plus Hub drive I have.  The Drive's Hub allows for data transfer and charging.  The drive/hub is externally powered, 1.5 amps to each of the two USB ports.  I plugged my iPhone into it, did not disconnect once.  I then tried my iPad Air, same thing worked without disconnecting.  My question is whether or not this is a good idea to use?  I have heard from friends and read in blogs using Hubs like this is not a good idea.  I want to be able to backup and sync my devices to iTunes and now that iOS 11 is out, I want to actually update my iPhone through iTunes.  That was another thing I read was the difference between updating over the air (OTA) vs. updating through iTunes.  I am a bit OCD so doing a full update through iTunes, especially an overhaul like iOS 10 to 11, would be preferred.  So am I good using this Seagate Backup Plus Hub that is externally powered?
