Unauthorized charges and information required t...

I have unauthorized charges to my apple ID.  I changed the password and tapped the cancel payment option.  However he web site asked for extensive information such as my ss#, how do I know this is an apple web site?

It’s not. Apple won’t ask customers to provide their social security number.

Did you do that by following a link on the email you received? If you did, then you revealed your Apple ID credentials to criminals. Your identity (as Apple knows it to be) is now in their hands.

The iTunes Store will never ask you to provide personal information or sensitive account information (such as passwords or credit card numbers) via email.

What the iTunes Store will never ask you to provide via email:

 

  • Social Security Number
  • ...

 

To change your Apple ID password please read Change your Apple ID password - Apple Support. Use that link and no other. Never click links in some random email that you did not expect.

 

 

An email confirmation for a transaction you did not make is a very common scam. To see your actual purchase history please read See your purchase history in the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC - Apple Support.

  • Don't open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
    • ...
    • A variant of the same scam takes the form of an emailed receipt for an iTunes Store or App Store purchase you did not make. The email will contain a link soliciting your Apple ID to confirm the alleged purchase. Both the link and the receipt are fraudulent.

 

Read Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support.

 

Delete the email in the usual manner.
