iTunes delete performance

Hi All

I'm trying to gauge how much of an increase in iTunes performance I can expect from a newer Mac

My library file is about 17mb and xml file is about 34mb and the media folder about 500gb

On my old late 2009 mac mini it takes about 50 secs to delete one podcast

Do you have a library of a similar size ?

What is the spec of your mac and how long does it take to delete a podcast or music track ?

I would hope for a big increase in performance with a latest iMac or Mac mini but single thread processor performance on the mini only seems to be about 60% faster in 8 years

If it is still going to be about 20secs it's not worth the upgrade but if it was going to be 3 or 4 due to other factors like fusion drive then it would be worth it

Thanks in advance

I don't think it is possible to estimate what speed improvements you might have on a new system, but if you don't need XML support for third party apps then turn off XML generation under iTunes > Preferences > Advanced. Cutting down on the number of live updating smart playlists and/or playlist folders would likely improve things a little too.

Thanks for the reply

I don't have any play lists at all and i use the xml to share media to my tv etc

It may not be possible to predict my exact performance improvement but are others with these sort of size library files experience delete times in the 10s of seconds ?

Thanks

My main library is some 63mb with a 263mb XML, and lives on a 5-year old Windows 7 box. I am used to some very slow response times with some operations but 50 seconds to delete a single file seems unacceptably slow. I have scripts that automate functions like embedding artwork or removing sort fields. Often individual changes in this library can take a second or more, whereas with my smaller iCloud library each change will take a fraction of a second. I picture an exponential relationship between the number of items in the library and time to process changes. Faster hardware ought to help, but who knows by how much?

My mac is a core duo 2.24ghz i think with 3gb ram

What soec is your pc ?

Do youhave lots of podcasts too ? Or mostly music

Thanks

It's a 2.2GHz core 2 duo, with 5Gb of RAM. Mostly music.

Thanks. I guess you don't delete tracks too often but if you do its only a few seconds?
