iPad screen glitch

My iPad suddenly had a screen glitch. Forums and other posts online say to give it a few good whacks on the back of the iPad but to no luck. The glitch makes everything look as if it was over saturated and color burned.

I want to know if I can resolve this without going to the Apple Store or getting a new iPad and if anyone else has had this issue.
