Notes on my MBP are not syncing to iCloud

I have a mid-2010 MBP running OS X 10.10.5.  I love using the Notes app, but it does not seem to be syncing with iCloud, even though all indications are I have it set up to do that. I need the Notes to sync across all my devices as I think they are supposed to. However, my iPhone and iPad have all the current notes and match what is on iCloud on the web. My MBP however, has a completely different set of notes. I have checked that I am syncing to the same iCloud account on all the devices. Also, when I log in to iCloud on the web, the Notes there match the IOS devices but not my MBP. I have double checked setting on my MBP to be sure that the notes are listed under iCloud, they are. I have no other way to explain why the files are independent of my iCloud files that are successfully syncing between my IOS devices.  Is there a way troubleshoot this? I am not sure where else to try. I need to be able to sync my notes between all 3 devices, but my MBP is not syncing with iCloud. Please help?
