Backup Sizes are wrong

I am getting an error from iCloud Backup saying that the next backup size is too large. Its currently showing 5.4GB.

Looking at the list of what taking up a lot of space I went in , deleted some videos from my Camera Roll, Movies from iMovie, Autostich files etc enough to probably free up around 1GB.

No matter what I try it does not seem to be picking up these changes and keeps saying I still have 5.4GB backup size  and the size for each app has stayed the same even though I know I have deleted stuff.

How do I get Backup to rescan the files?

I have this problem as well!

Last year I had my phone replaced and when I restored from icloud backup it was going to take 4 hours!

THEN I noticed that after deleting the backup of the broken phone from icloud to run a new one, I noticed the new backup was about 1.5GB bigger than the old one even though it was all the same content.

a few months ago I then upgraded to 4S and experienced the same issue again except this time the backup grew in size up to 5.1 from 3.5 - again, there was nothing that wasn't there before. I managed to remove pretty much everything bar the bare essentials and it came in at 4.7GB.

Last week icloud then showed the message telling me the storage is full(for some reason the back up has grown to 6.2GB. nothing I have done seems to have improved this/created a solution. After talking to applecare they told me to back up and restore to fix the problem. This made it worse! After the restore it now shows that the next backup will be 8.6 GB. I also tried to delete the previous back up from icloud. for a brief moment the storage management showed 3.8 GB for the next back up but then it went back to displaying 8.6GB for the back up size.

HELP!

I have the same problem and this has been driving me crazy! My backup size has an extra 3gb! Even after disabling everything from backing up, it still shows the next backup size is 3gb. I have deleted and re-backed up multiple times to no avail. Has anyone solved this problem?

Did anyone get an answer to this one?  I am having same problem.

Haven't gotten an answer yet. I've kinda given up on it for now. :(

I found that totally disabling icloud backup and then enabling it sometimes did it. Once I did need a reboot between disabling it and enabling it.

Fairly poor.

I think that it was actually the result of a data corruption in the backup which can happen for any reason. In a majority of cases a software update and restore. I think we are the unlucky few in which that's not the case. In the end I decided to just set my phone up from new and delete my old backup. The only thing that I ended up losing was my text messages and some settings for game apps and stuff as all my contacts and calendars were still stored in iCal. It sucked a little but but now I'm over it. You could keep doing the backup and restore and it's possible it would eventually fix the problem but I would brace yourself for the outcome where it doesn't.

On the bright side my backup including cameras roll is now 2gb with 0.75gb being 'other'

Good luck

** sigh **  I was afraid I wasn't gonna like any of those answers....

Ah well, there are worse predicaments.  Thanks for all the replies.

I have the same problem. The next backup size is calculated at 5.9 GB, even when I turned off individual backups for *every* application. This looks like a serious bug.

Sign me up for this problem whcih has just developed out of the blue.  I have three devices backing up to iCloud, and suddenly my 4S says 3.5 GB, when almost everything is turned off for iCloud backup.  Matter of fact I had recently done a factory restore as new iPhone, just a couple days ago.  There isn't even 2 GB of data/apps on the phone entirely.

I'm wondering if it's corrupted data or something to do with iTunes Match.  I was having all sorts of issues with Match after the iOS 6 update, whcih prompted me to reset the phone to factory new.  Well so it goes..

Hi all.

I finally have sorted this out. This is not a problem at all. iCloud just keeps a history of backups (which is hidden to the user). For example in the iCloud backup menu it displays the current backup that is stored but it has some files of the previus  backups.

Basically just leave your device as is for a couple of days and after 2 or 3 normal backups (when you charge the device with a 24 hour period from each charge) the backup size will be updated as well as the current  app list on your device.(in the icloud backup menu)

Afraid not. I purposely deleted all my previous backups. Still, the phone has been consistently unable to back up to iCloud, every night for a period of about 3 months.

Hey everyone, so I finally got mine (sorta) fixed, thanks to a guy on Reddit who was having the same issue. I deleted all messages that contained videos and pics. Granted, it still says my backup size is 1.7 GB with everything turned off. But I will take that over the 4.7 GB that was showing previously.

Tried that.  Didn't work.  Next suggestion?

Apple?   Fix your backup.  I realize it benefits you monetarily to trick everyone into thinking they're JUST over the 5GB limit so they purchase more space (ironic isn't it?  We all have the same problem of a size just over the free limit?  Fascinating!), but please fix whatever is (intentionally) broken.

Same issue here!  Shutting off iCloud backup, rebooting, then reenable didn't work.  My backup wants 10GB yet apps show backup should be 100MB and I'm not syncing photos, emails, or anything else.
