iOS 11 notes from lock screen not working

Hi,  I have an iPad Pro with Apple Penci. With iOS 11 I should be able to open a new note with the tap of the pencil on the lock screen. When I do this the screen goes black for a second and then it just goes to the home screen. When I look in notes, it shows that a new note was created, it just isn’t an instant note as advertised. I checked my settings and I’ve tried restarting the iPad as well.

This is a feature I would use all the time, so I really want it to work. Help!
