When would I want to clear cache and cookies in...

I'm trying to address rapid battery drain on my iPad. Safari accounted for 90% of my battery usage in the past 24 hrs, and I'm wondering if clearing the cache would help slow down battery drain. Is this the case?  Any other time clearing cache is recommended? Should I just do it periodically? Thanks!

Hi CarolinaGirl88,

Safari would only use battery power when the app itself is actually running, either open on your screen at the time or in the background in multitasking. You can access this by double pressing your home button and swiping up on the app to close it fully. I have read however that it is easier on battery to leave an app open in the background so it opens faster the next time you use it and doesn't have to re-load the entire app. This itself can save on battery life.

Cache on the other hand is temporary information that is stored to your device by Safari. Deleting the cache can sometimes enable a browser to run quicker, however all the cache you got rid of initially would have to be downloaded again for each website you go to, making it slightly redundant.

It is healthy to clear your cache once every few months or so, because we don't always use the same websites forever and that information might just be slowing you down, but it's not really a big issue if you don't. To answer your question, cache and battery life are not linked.

To help improve your battery life, I recommend reading this: Batteries - Maximizing Performance - Apple (CA)

Hope this helps.
