MERGE

RE: Difference between REPLACE and MERGE. I apologize for posting this again, but the site that I was previously directed to was confusing. I do not need the technical operation, such as “…appending a counting number,” or, converting the object to a batch file. W H A T? I merely want to know how the functions are different when moving a file into a folder, or, from a file/folder from one drive to another. Replace is obvious, but what does MERGE do? Does it replace only the items that have been “incrementally” changed since the last transfer, and keeping the items that were not changed, untouched? Such as, an incremental backup. The bigger question is, why would use MERGE rather than replace. What is the benefit, or dis-benefit?
