HP 25bw IPS displays desktop too big from MacBo...

I've connected a new HP monitor via HDMI cable to a 15" MBP Retina.  On the external monitor, the desktop is displayed too big - that is, the menu bar at the top of the desktop window is "off the top" and the dock at the bottom has its icon's tops only  visible. It's just slight too large to "fit" on the external display. The desktop on the MBP is normal [not too big].  Monitor control panels do not fix this issue, at least the control panels that I can find.

I have not tried setting "zoom" because the desktop is proper on the MBP.

I did this for my wife's new laptop so she can work long hours without fatigue but the too lsrge display makes it hard for her to actually use the monitor to do work.

Thanks in advance

I'm mirroring.

It is impossible to display the desktop on the external monitor without image quality loss using the zoom feature you described assuming it will make the image smaller. So the only practical solution is to set the monitor resolution to the resolution of the monitor that you are using and have it blown up to fit the macbook pro screen or just use the monitor as the primary display and use the macbook pro screen as a second monitor.

HEY FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT. So I read this a million times almost returned the monitor. Now Maverick came out and everyone says hey there is two bars. I could not see it so i decided to put my mouse up on the screen and click and hey maverick does have to bars. For tv's there is "overscan" so go to your hp bw 25 monitor click on the main menu button. Use the buttons near the power button  the '+' and '-' button to go to 'Image Control..'.

Now you will see a option called Custom scaling,Sharpness, and etc. go into 'Custom Scaling'. Then you will see a option called overscan. Touch into this and turn it from Auto to 'off' press OK and go to save and Return. WALA!!!! Stupid problem fixed. Yes I understand you do not have to do this for any other laptop, and it works on t.v's but 'overscan' was the problem. Took me a month to figure out I thought it was because I was on LION.

Everyone say thank you IMRAN . for sharing
