how to find iHome wireless optical mouse by Sie...

Sierra 10.12.6 keeps sayng it cannot find the iHome wireless optical mouse. I followed the instructions: installed the optical sensor and turned on the mouse to make it "discoverable".  Still no connection. One instruction I don't understand, "plug in the USB dongle to your computer".  The plastic thing that must be the "dongle" is too big to plug in to a USB.

Does the dongle look something like this

If so, it needs to be plugged into a USB port.

If you have a Macbook or recent Macbook Pro with USB-C ports, then you will need a USB-C to USB-3 adapter, such as this <USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple>, AGAIN, assuming your Mac has USB-C ports.

I'm guessing you have USB-C ports because you say the dongle is too big to plug-in.  But until recently, most USB dongles have looked like the above, and most computers had USB ports they could plug into.  But Apple's ultra thin and light Macbooks use USB-C ports, and the Late 2016 Macbook Pros and newer all use USB-C ports which is a newer and smaller port.

If I am guessing correctly about your Mac having USB-C ports, then if you just purchased the iHome mouse, I would suggest returning it for a refund, and getting a Bluetooth base mouse, which should be able to pair with your Mac without any problems.
