2017 5k iMac external display?

I am looking to get a new 27" iMac. best buy has a good deal right now. I can get the 3.8ghz w/2tb for 1920 open box. I don't do and video editing or anything much more than web, microsoft office, and itunes. I'm just looking at the 3.8 because it comes with the 128gb ssd, so i could have everything but itunes on the ssd, and it has more vram. From what i understand the 8gb vram is better for playing movies on my 55" 4k tv as an external display while still using the imac for web or office, right? Or am i just being silly. Also, is opening a file, such as a movie in itunes, from the hd slow after having a macbook pro with a full ssd.
