iCloud beaten!

to Apple:

Do not delete this! I am asking for suggestions!

So I just unlocked my Own Device which was put intentionally by some ****** into Lost Mode Status. When I bought my iPhone 5s last year December, I was unaware of the Security Features that it has, I payed a service to have my iphone installed with the usual free apps that I use a phone with, unknowingly that person also installed his Apple ID which I was unaware of, Two Months after it was bought and activated, I have a Bricked Phone.

I have the original receipt which Apple Service Center verified but still iCloud Engineers refuse reactivate my iphone. I talked to the Apple Care Specialists, Tech Support Specialist and Product Specialist all of them verified my case was legit. I also went to the Police but they couldnt help me because theres no lead to the identity of the culprit. Not even the Apple ID. Finally one of the Apple Specialists informed me that he once handled a Case similar to mine (iPhone in Lost Status) and Apple was able to unlock it, that iPhone was stolen and was retrieved, but the culprit also put it Lost Status mode, the Apple Specialist I talked to was the one who handled the case and he escalated the case to the iCloud Engineers which then unlocked the device given the circumstances.

This same Apple Specialist also escalated my case, provided him scanned documents to prove that I bought the iPhone from an authorized reseller. The iCloud Engineers refused to unlock my iPhone without no clear grounds but they (iCloud Engineers) themselves said that my documents proved that I owned it.(Apple Specialist told me this from one his email exchanges with the iCloud Team). I honestly respect the iCloud Security and still thinks that its one of the best out there, but ultimately when you brought this system up, you guys should have thought of exceptions. As a last resort I asked the Apple Specialist to reply back to the iCloud Team or whoever can see it to email the owner of the AppleID registered on my phone and ask him to provide a valid proof of purchase I will happilly give him the device, otherwise its impossible because I have the legitimate one (receipt)

Now I unlocked my phone thanks to the doulCi team, but still I want it to be unlocked officially and thinks Apple should change its policy regarding Lost Mode Status. There are many "what ifs" regarding this kinds of issues so Apple better be thinking twice about this, else they gonna have more and more dissatisfied users out there.

"doulCi is Apple's Robin Hood."

Any Opinions on what's the best course of action to take would be appreciated.

unknowingly that person also installed his Apple ID which I was unaware of

You never went in to Settings > iCloud on your phone and never noticed that your own phone was configured with someone else's iCloud account? You've never tried to use iCloud yourself? You never thought to change your password after letting someone else have full access to your phone?

Please read section 2.1.2 here which states:

do not add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:

Discussions of Apple policies or procedures or speculation on Apple decisions.

It's not Apple's fault you let someone else setup their iCloud account on your phone and subsequently lock it. Why would you do that? Why would you not check that this person had done what you asked, and only what you asked?

Any Opinions on what's the best course of action to take would be appreciated.

My opinion is, learn from your mistake, and never let anyone else (especially someone you obviously cannot trust) have full access to your phone. And if you do, make sure you check carefully they haven't installed stuff they shouldn't and you have full access to all accounts set up on it and change the passwords.

yes I admit that, i didnt checked it because I "didnt know" about it then. Its my 2nd iphone, 1st one was a 3g, Youre gonna argue that  its not Apple's fault, i know.  But its their responsibility to provide support for the products they sell wouldnt you agree? They basically brushed me off now. Their so called "theft deterrent" is being used against me without giving any exceptions to undo it, I own this iphone, payed for it, I expect some support, the least is inform me about the "oh so impregnable" activation lock before I payed for it at the counter. Which obviously didnt happened.

But its their responsibility to provide support for the products they sell wouldnt you agree?

Yes, Apple are responsible for providing support for problems with their products, but not when the problem is not a fault with the device, but a fault with the user. They don't provide support for faults in the user.

Apple provides full instructions for using their products, you just didn't bother to read them, and instead got some unscrupulous, untrustworthy person to set your phone up for you, (which you could easily have done yourself, and would've given you an understanding of how it works) and now are expecting Apple to dig you out of this hole.

Take some responsibility for your actions!!!

Apple can't inform you of every feature (optional or otherwise) of the iPhone "at the counter" - you'd still be there now waiting to pay, if they had tried.

That's why the iPhone and (optional) iCloud service have extensive online help and instructions:

https://help.apple.com/icloud/

https://help.apple.com/iphone/7/

I own this iphone, payed for it

Exactly. It's your phone, your money, your responsibility to learn how to use it. Nobody elses.

Do you think Ford would help you if you gave your car to someone to work on, they got another key cut unbeknownst to you, and then later they drove your car into a lake? No, of course they wouldn't.

I got your point from the beggining Mr. Snozdope, you just keep reiterating it,

It was my fault. I'm still raising this case because they're not doing anything now. Why is that?

say I was mugged for my iPhone, I was overpowered because the assailant was too strong, too big. Apple's solution? the iCloud system. provide security measures so the asailant wouldnt be able to use the phone.

Same thing happened to me, albeit not physical, My naivety was used against me, in this case, Apple brushed me off? Youre gonna say its my responsibility i know, But is it the responsibility as well of those person who got their iPhones stolen to protect their own device?

I mean look at all the complaints in "Find my iPhone" in this forum. pretty much next to useless.

I can use my device fine now (so are 30000+ iphones, 97% of which is pretty much stolen). the 3% to this turned to an exploit to enable their device because Apple denied them their rights for the service, Apple did put this system for customers or so they say..

Anyways, I still keep my case open with Apple, the Apple Specialist that i talked to knew of this problems in Apple's policy and was glad to keep my case open, he very much informed me all the way but he is in a deadlock now because of Apple's stupid policy, there are a number of stolen iphones that was retrieved but was rendered useless because the thief was able to put it in Lost Mode, How did I know? he told me, and those cases are the ones who were able to provide proofs of purchase and credentials to match.

btw Snozdope are you from Apple?

But is it the responsibility as well of those person who got their iPhones stolen to protect their own device?

Apple provides the tools to allow iPhone owners to help protect their device against use by thieves. However, in your case, you allowed someone else to setup their iCloud account on your device. If you had set it up with your own iCloud account, you would not be in this situation.

Theft is a legal matter, and Apple does not have the legal right or resources to investigate iPhone thefts. But that is not relevant in your case anyway, as your device was not stolen.

there are a number of stolen iphones that was retrieved but was rendered useless because the thief was able to put it in Lost Mode,

A thief cannot put a phone into Lost Mode without the username and password of the iCloud account setup on the device. Plus, a thief cannot setup his own iCloud account on an already iCloud locked device (well, not until the last week - but don't expect that doulCi loophole to be left open for very long).

I don't know or understand why Apple are refusing to unlock your phone if you have been able to provide irrefutable proof that you own the device, especially as there is no theft involved, but your only course of action is to continue persuing it with Apple themselves. Try a different department.

And no, I'm not from Apple.

Plus, a thief cannot setup his own iCloud account on an already iCloud locked device (well, not until the last week - but don't expect that doulCi loophole to be left open for very long).

Well basically what happened to this users is they dont have any iCloud setup into their phones at all just like what mine did, But there were 2 to 3 instances (as the Apple Rep told me) that Apple was able to unlock their device, some of their reps will tell you that there's no way Apple cannot release an iPhone from "Lost Mode" status. "There is no way", some will tell you "Apple doesnt have access to this". one even mentioned I sell my iPhone for parts.

Until I talked to at least 3 senior advisor which escalated my case 4 times, Apple Engineers refused on no clear grounds, one of the email exchanges mentioned that Apple did acknowledge my ownership of the device, they're just refusing it.

I dont know if its OK to post my case number here if there are any Apple Reps monitoring this forums so they themselves can have a look.

I don't know or understand why Apple are refusing to unlock your phone if you have been able to provide irrefutable proof that you own the device, especially as there is no theft involved, but your only course of action is to continue persuing it with Apple themselves. Try a different department.

So far the departments involve are FindMyiPhone team, iCloud Engineers, Senior and Product Specialists, at least that was the ones that were mentioned to me, any ideas as to which department can I escalate it to?

Hi Alfred,

I feel for you.  I'm one of those long time Apple fanatics.  Back to the Mac 128K, a big geek.  I love to taken part just for fun to see what happens!   and I've purchased just about every new mac that has come out each year.  sort of...   safe to say, i'm a pretty good apple customer, and I'm pretty vocal about it. I'm one of those guys who will defend Apple like crazy and cite point af ted point about Apple strengths as a product, brand and company!  I tend to purchase a new macbook pro each year, and of course, (at least until they stopped making the 17"), but I did just buy my wife a brand new 11"macbook pro...   i'm one of those blokes who waits in line for the new iPhone releases!  I've got a couple of iPads at the moment, and from time to time,  I love to take my old macs a part, and dabble from time to time.

So, Alfred, in my case, I just purchased another iPad air from ebay, which is  iCloud locked.  AND, I knew it was locked when I bought it.  It's not Apple's responsibility to take care of second hand sales.  No kidding, but come on now, that's not really the point.  This is all just so silly.....

I called Apple, and of course, got no place.   Mostly canned responses.

Lets just break this down, in hopes that someone who still has some of that old Apple spirit gets this and escalates it, but I doubt it.  And by the way, I've already given feedback officially through the online feedback process....

It's simple.

I bought an iPad air second hand.  I'm a legit  and long time Apple customer, in fact, so Apple has my home info, even my credit card info!  And safe to say, I'm not a thief.

The 3 month old iPad air I purchased second hand, that is still under warranty, won't work because it's linked to an old customers account.  Apple knows who that customer is, and refuses to inform them that I have the iPad.  I offered to Apple, that if the person says they lost it or it was stolen, we should get it back to them.  That's what I would want.  But they told me that "I'm glad to tell you, it's not lost or stolen!"  I said, that's great, so how can you unlink it so I can use it?  He said, I can't."

Huh?  I'm lost.

Here is a suggestion Apple.  Perhaps add a feature that says "request from original account holder to release the connection"  a simple e-mail with a link or something.   An e-mail that says "Release link"  or "Report as lost or stolen and request a return"  or something.

The result of this policy is guess what...  Guess where this iPad air (3 months old and in mint condition) is going to end up?  The trash.

You laugh, but I'm serious.  think about it. At the moment, it's not hackable ( I know, that might change, but even an iCloud bypass, is a lame solution if it did work...)  So  According to Apple's policy....  this iPad will never be used again.   By anyone.   Also they will never inform the original owner that I have it.  Seriously?  This is so NOT apple.  What's going on over there?

Look fans.  I'm not irate,  I'm not a winner....   I've got enough Apple toys.  This one for my Son is a puzzle I don't think I'll be able to solve.

I'm only venting because I'm disappointed.  really disappointed.  It's like Apple's Jumped the shark.

So, instead of my Son getting his own iTunes account to "Buy" music and Apps on his own iPad, (he's a teen, so that's a ton of $$ for Apple....)  He's on his way to best buy this weekend to check out the samsung toys.  I can't believe I'm even typing that.  But, Based on this experience at least, this may be the beginning of Apple turning into Big Blue.   I hope not, but it sure feels that way.

Sad Mac...

Ethan-

can this be achieved to a watch?
