Sync problem.

I am trying to sync my ipod classic (Gen5) to itunes 12. When I  try  to  use the normal sync  screen it is nothing  but  a gray screen. If I check the sync  box it says  that  all songs  will be removed from my ipod.

I need to get the songs off the ipod classic, as the battery is bad, and put those songs onto an iPod touch (Gen4) that I just  purchased.  Any help would be appreciated.
