Brand new MBP, Setup wizard Username

As title, Brand new machine today, Setup Wizard. When creating the Username it does this.

Name John Smith

Username johnsmith1

Will not ALLOW me to remove the 1. All previous machines had username johnsmith and I would like to retain that for restoring from a Time Machine Backup of the last one.

2 minutes to chat took over 10 then I gave up.
