Messages in Activity Sharing send to wrong pers...
With the release of watchOS 3, my wife and I set up Activity Sharing. I'm properly getting notifications from her Watch regarding her activity. However, when I try to reply or send her a message, I'm seeing two problems. First, the default replies on the Watch are usually (though not always) not the ones you see on this page https://www.apple.com/watchos/ , but are the regular default replies (Thanks, BRB, Hello!, etc.).
I might be able to deal with that issue, but the other issue is even worse. Instead of sending the replies to my wife, they are coming to other addresses that I have associated with my Apple ID. IOW, it's sending the messages back to me. Has anyone else seen this?
I just had my wife try to send a message to me. It worked, but it didn't give her the default Activity Sharing replies.
Also, I tried to send her a message via the Activity app *on my iPhone* and that was also going to send to me, not her.
Hi
Are you sharing an Apple ID with your wife?
No, not at all. The closest thing is that we have Family Sharing on our accounts, but that's it.
Note that Activity Sharing actually sends to two of my associated addresses when I've let it go through. I have several more but I've not dug into which ones it's sending to and which ones it isn't.
The following steps may help:
- On your iPhone, in the Contacts app:
- Check that there is only a single contact card for your wife (delete any duplicates).
- Check that her contact card includes her name, mobile phone number and any email addresses that she uses for Messages and/or email (including her Apple ID email address).
- Remove any contact information that belongs to you or any other contact.
- Check that there is only a single contact card for your wife (delete any duplicates).
- You may also wish to enable iCloud for Contacts:
- On your iPhone, go to: Settings > iCloud - turn on Contacts.
- On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Contacts - check that My Info is using your contact card.
- Go to: Settings > Siri > My Info - check that your contact card is selected.
- Via a web browser, sign in to Manage Your Apple ID: https://appleid.apple.com/
- In the Account section, under Contactable / Reachable At, check whether your wife's iPhone number and/or email address(es) are listed - if they are, delete them.
- Check the email addresses at which you can be reached via iMessage:
- On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > under You Can Be Reached by iMessage At > in addition to your iPhone number, enable (with a check mark) your Apple ID email address (do not enable any other email addresses that are not solely yours).
- On both your iPhone and your watch, delete old Messages conversations with your wife:
- iPhone: Messages app > swipe left on a message thread > delete.
- Watch: open the Messages app (via the Home screen, which is accessed via single press on the Digital Crown) > swipe left on a message thread > tap on Trash / Delete.
- Reset your sync data:
- On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Reset > tap once on Reset Sync Data.
- Nothing will seem to happen (the button will not even react), but the process will run in the background, invisibly to you, so allow a minute or so it to complete.
- Restart both your iPhone and your watch, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:
Thank you very much for this. However, it did not help. This time, it wanted to send the message to my phone number. Even if I had another contact with this number, the fact that it would send to that contact instead of my wife's contact makes no sense. Does it?
Check also that your own contact card does not contain any of your wife's contact information.
Except for the "spouse", home phone (land line), and address, no it doesn't.
Some users have reported experiencing issues with Digital Touch messages in connection with related names.
You may wish to try, at least temporarily, removing that entry and testing whether the issue persists.
Either way, given the steps that you have already tried, I suggest that you contact Apple Support or make a Genius Bar reservation for assistance:

I have a two part update to this.
Even though it should not have mattered, I had three contacts for myself that had different items in them such as my mobile number. I cut this down to one and that seemed to solve the problem. I was then able to send Messages through Activity Sharing to my wife.
However, at some point later it started happening again. She stopped receiving the messages and they started coming to me again. With only my contact that has my phone number and Apple ID address, why in the world would it send to me? With our contact info being completely different except for home phone number (not mobile) and related names, it simply doesn't make sense to me that these messages come to me instead of her.
I too had a similar problem of sharing activity with a friend, but my text messages to him withings the Activity app went to his wife.
I believe I may have resolved the issue by deleting their common Home phone number only from my friend's card. Please try to replicate.
I have been having the same problem for the past few days: responding to activity progress events for my wife, via the watch, were being sent only to myself. I removed our shared 'home phone' number from my own identity card and it immediately resolved the issue.
My wife and I had the same email address (used as our Apple ID). I deleted that email address from my contact card and now it shows up as her and not me on the Activity sharing. If I try to put that email back into my contact card, it reverts back to my name in the Activity sharing, so i just have to leave that email out.
I fixed this problem by removing any shared phone numbers (like home phone) from mine and spouse's contacts. Then adding the shared numbers back to them, but this time the first one in each contact is the mobile number.
That fixed it for me! Thank you...
Thanks all. I deleted our shared "home" phone that was in the 1st position on both our phones for each other, and replaced the 1st position our iPhone #. Then added the "home" phone # back again; however, in the 2nd position. I then sent a "message" and picked iPhone, on each phone's from "Activity > Sharing > today's activity" and pressing the "i" to get to the contact screen, and pressing the message icon. After that we are both able o reply to each's achievement Notification instead of the reply come back to one of us...
