Laptop died and music disappeared

Hi!

My old laptop has just about died a death. I can just about get it to switch on but the only way I can get iTunes to launch is by connecting my iPhone to the laptop via USB.

I tried to consolidate the library so that I could transfer it all over to the new laptop but lots of the music doesn't seem to be there. E.g. I've created playlists from other albums in my library directly in iTunes. But when I try to play the songs I get the "cannot locate the original fie" message.

I think the laptop has a fault on it that's somehow corrupted iTunes or is preventing it from working properly.

Has anyone else had this problem or have any idea how I can resolve it? I've tried "Home Sharing" but the same problem exists - the music isn't there.

I hope this makes sense as I'm not sure how else to describe the problem!
