I want to see Dock when I switch on my iMac

I am finding great difficulty in learning about my iMac. I do not find it at all intuitive as is the case with my iPhone, 3 iPads and various iPods. I guess I bought it for no no good reason and do not spend enough hours on it. All i want is to switch it on and see the dock and maybe my most used applications. I can find no easy way to do this!.

Please do not bother to denigrate my efforts. I just want to be able to use this machine simply and not get irritated every time I switch it on. I am in London UK and am what you may term a very senior citizen!

I bought a large book  called OS X El capitan the missing manual but I can hardly hold it as it is very heavy!

any simple instructions would be appreciated!

Hi, sorry for your frustration; but once you spend a little more time on your mac you will learn it more and love it.

I have a feeling your dock is automatically hiding - you can unhide it as follows.

  • Click on the apple icon in the left top corner.
  • Select system preferences.
  • on the top row click on Dock.
  • Uncheak the "Automatically hide and show the Dock" option.

Hope this helps you, feel free to always ask me about your Mac.
