iTunes 11.1.4 freezes after connecting iDevices

I'm using iTunes 11.1.4 on Windows 7 64-bit. When I connect iPhone 4 7.0.4 and iPad 4 7.0.4, iTunes freezes and I have to end the procces through task manager. Or if I disconnect the iDevices, iTunes just show a message that hte device was detected but it cannot be synced. Even when I click on Preferences in Edit menu when there is no iDevice connected to the computer, it freezes. I re-installed the iTunes and I tried to Repair it but there was no difference.

Hello, Okarimi.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I would recommend trying the troubleshooting steps in the article below.

iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers,

Jason H.

Jason - I'm not sure you're understanding the complete situation, if it's what I'm experiencing. You can't sync, load files to iPad, play music, download podcasts, etc. because iTunes freezes when you open it. Period. 11.1.4 DOES.NOT.WORK. I have to force close it. Apple put out a bad update.

It's not just about syncing, which is obviously a huge problem because I use my iPad for teaching but now I can't get my files onto the device, but the whole app doesn't work. iPhone, iPod, iPad, Mac - nothing will work if the app freezes as soon as you open it. When is Apple going to fix it? Macbook Pro 10.7.5

I still have the problem. My Windows slows down after luanching and closing iTunes and it takes lots of time to restart the laptop.

Jason,  Why would you make that recommendation?  Have you tried it?  Has anyone ever posted back, "wow, thanks, that fixed it".  I haven't found such a reply and I have read a lot of posts on this issue.  Apple advocates all seem to recommend that same set of procedures, yet no one attests that it works.  iTunes on one of my Apple computers suddenly freezes when I connect my iPhone or iPad to it.  I wasted a tremendous amount of time performing all of those steps to no avail.  I see this problem has been going on for years.  It's time for Apple to dump iTunes and make a new media app that that provides the simple functionality we need for our devices including AppleTV.  We don't need a store built into the app.  And, it's time for people to not provide the status quo response for this issue.  Just an opinion from one of many frustrated iTunes users.

Jason, your "solution" does not fix the problem.

Like others here:

if I open iTunes with my iPhone connected (even wirelessly), iTunes freezes.

If I connect my iPhone (even wirelessly) while iTunes is open and functioning, iTunes freezes.

iTunes is a mess right now, and it needs to be stripped down to the bolts.  While I appreciate that Apple wants to integrate all of its media experiences, it's not doing it well, and since I can't even sync or connect my iPhone, I'd say Apple is going backwards.  Why in the world would I buy media I can't sync?

I think I may have found a solution: go to your finder and to the library.  (You may have to enable that by enabling library-view in "Preferences.")

Find Library > Application Support > Sync Services.

Trash Sync Services.

That fixed my problem.

Wow, thank you SO much for solving this. I too have been having the exact same issue for the past few months and could not find any answers. I tried deleting iTunes, deleting plst files, deleting backups, everything. This finally solved my problem. Thank you!

Thanks Otterstcatch - your fix worked like a dream.   I have been searching for this for a solution for weeks!!

Go to finder where? In itunes?

Good for a mac, but what about a windows PC?
Any help would be appreciated.

OtterStCatch, can you give a little more detail?  Im not finding library view or sync services anywhere.  I'm sure  I'm just missing it but iTunes crashed while my phone was restoring so i don't have a phone until i get this fixed.

Hi geraldfromfpo / xytarwest,,

i tried OtterStCatch suggestion and it worked straight way. thank you. I too was having an issue finding the view library option and here is how you do it.

choose Home from the Finder’s Go menu (Go > Home);

Still in the Finder, choose View > Show View Options

Near the bottom of the resulting View-Options palette is a setting called Show Library Folder. Enable this option. Your Library folder is immediately visible.

then follow OtterStCatch comments below.

thanks

Great. Worked perfectly thanks.

And it also works with Yosemite and iOS8!!!

Great, I was looking for months for a solution

Thank you a lot!
