What's this on my monitor and how do I get rid ...

My macbook monitor is not dirty, but I cannot seem to get rid of this.  Can anyone tell me what it is and how to clean it?  It's making it hard to edit good photos on my retina display....  Does anyone have the same issues?  How did it appear and how to avoid it?  Not good, Apple.
