strange noise when macbook air 13 '17 starts up

Hi there,

I have recently bought a new mac air 13. Since I updated to HighSierra it started making a really strange noise when I turn it on. It comes from the top-left side of the keyboard, where the fan is placed. However, it's a noise that occurs just for a second, right after pressing the power button. It's really difficult to define: like a piece of plastic that hits something. Of course I thought it was probably due to the fun stuck for some reason, but running the apple hardware test I couldn't find any issue. I tried also to downgrade to Sierra, but the noise didn't disappear.

This sound occurs ONLY when I turn on the laptop. If it's just sleeping, no sound at all.

Anyway, apart from this weird sound, the laptop works fine.

What should I do?

Thank you for your attention

Tom

Greetings tommasoff,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It seems like your MacBook Air is now making a noise when you turn it on. Since this happens when you turn it on and does not happen when inside of macOS Sierra or High Sierra, this may be a hardware issue. I would recommend you read this article and use it to help troubleshoot the issue.
