Classical Music in iTunes Library

To reopen an old question, who has new ideas on ways to standardize the CD metadata in an iTunes Library? Specifically, if a recording involves the Vienna Philharmonic with Leonard Bernstein and Gideon Kremer playing the violin and Misha Maisky playing the cello, where do you put what? What is the difference between Artist and Album Artist in classical music?

And if the piece is "Classical", how do you break it down into subcategory- Classical Baroque, Classical Romantic, Choral, etc.

For Album names I have adopted the rule that the composers last name is the first word in the title followed by a colon. But that makes for extra work id the Album contains both Brahms and Mendelssohn.The album must be broken into two entries and linked with the compilation box checked.
